Seattle Trip – Everett Baptist Church

Posted in Recent Video Shoots, Tutorials on March 9, 2011 by Andrew Garcia
I spent several days in Seattle, WA recently shooting a video for Everett Bible Baptist Church. I worked closely with Pastor Erik Sanders and his assistant, Sam Green. They have a thriving work there in Everett and it was a neat experience to spend time with them.

This project was quite different than most of the projects that I work on as it was not a church promotion but a church planting video. We wanted to showcase Seattle. It was such a beautiful city with a lot of character. This made it relatively easy to capture some great footage. My favorite shots of the trip were taken from the top of the Space Needle.

I used a Pixel intervalometer hooked up to my GH2 and took a couple different timelapse shots from the top of the Needle. I put together a quick demonstration of how to create a timelapse using Quicktime Pro. You can view this at the end of the article as well as watch the entire Church Plant video.

This was my first true video project with the GH2 and I have to say I’m very happy with how it handled. Everything about this camera is better than its predecessor (GH1) – unhacked or hacked. I don’t care how high the mbps are, if there is ugly vertical banding, the shot is tainted. The GH2 doesn’t have issue with that at all until you push into the extreme ISOs.

The message of this video speaks to the great dearth of evangelical Christian churches in the Pacific Northwest – specifically Seattle. Everett Bible Baptist Church is setting out to start several churches in the Seattle area over the next few years. This video is intended to help cast the vision for potential pastors to come and be a part of this effort.
